Bill was born in Tacoma and lived his entire life in Tacoma and Lakewood. He attended Concordia Lutheran School, then graduated from Stadium High School in 1967. The next step in his education was the University of Puget Sound, where he obtained a teaching certificate with majors in German and history. He substitute- taught in Tacoma, Clover Park, and Bethel School Districts for twenty-five years.
In 1992 he married Helen Keyt and remained with her for the rest of his life.
Bill had strong connections to his church. Early in his life he attended Zion Lutheran church and served in several volunteer capacities as an adult. After his marriage, he attended St. Peter’s Church in Old Town, Tacoma. In recent years he was at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Lakewood, where he was a member of the choir.
Bill was an avid reader and loved to solve crossword puzzles. Throughout his life he explored his German heritage and European history in general. Bill died on October 17,2022.
He is survived by his wife and his step-son Donald Keyt of the home. Two other step-children are Gwendolyn Keyt of Portland and Michael Keyt of Port Orchard.
A memorial service will be held at Old St. Peter’s Church on Starr Street, Tacoma, on November 5 at 2:00 P.M.
