Shawn Douglas Mooney, aged 58, of Puyallup, WA, passed away on March 21, 2025, following a prolonged battle with congestive heart failure. He had an LVAD and pacemaker implanted in 2021 as a destination therapy.
Shawn was born on August 9, 1966, to Connie Douglas and Shirley Ann (Sietman) Mooney in Rockford, Il. After graduating from East High School, Shawn went on to study Operations Production Management at Rock Valley College and the University of Alabama-Birmingham. Upon graduating with a bachelor’s degree in business, Shawn began his career in manufacturing and worked over 25 years in supply chain/material management.
In 1986, Shawn met Diana (Hankins) at Hillview Baptist Church in Birmingham, and they were married in June 1988, and moved back to Shawn’s hometown of Rockford in 1989. It was in Rockford, they had their son, Troy Douglas, in July 1995.
Shawn loved playing football for his beloved East High School ERABS (East Red and Black). Among his most favorite things to do was bowling, fishing, camping, and watching the Alabama Crimson Tide. He loved to yell “Roll Tide!” whenever his team scored and will forever be a die-hard Bama fan. He had the gift of talking to everyone he met, and he loved his Irish and German heritage, finding his heritage, and having Diana cross-stitch his Irish family tree for him all the way back to Ireland.
Shawn was a wonderful father and loving husband. He was active in scouting, not only a cub scout himself as a little boy, but also a cubmaster and an assistant scoutmaster for his son’s troop, Troop DXVI – Puyallup, where Troy earned his Eagle Scout. He was a proud dad of Troy and the young man he had become. He also helped Diana achieve her associate’s degree - he was always the rock she could lean on and come to for questions, especially in math, her least favorite subject. When his health allowed, he attended mass and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was predeceased by his father Connie, his grandparents OJ and Jessie (Lee) Mooney, Arthur and Anna (Sietman) Blystad, and his uncle Johnny Mooney.
Shawn is survived by his wife Diana, son Troy (Hallie), mother Shirley (Roger Hollister), brother Keith (Lori) Mooney, nephews Bret (Courtney) Mooney, Eric Mooney, niece Alexandra Mooney, uncle Robert (Bonnie) Sietman, cousin Austin Sietman, aunt Linda (Johnny) Mooney, along with many close friends and family members.
A funeral mass is scheduled for Friday, May 9, 2025, at Holy Disciples Catholic Church in Puyallup, WA.
