Richard Winsler Obituary

Richard James Winsler II, 55, took leave of this earth March 14, 2026 to join his beloved pug Ruby in a loving place that has pets and their owners at its center and which welcomes friends and family.  Richard was a dog whisperer.  He could herd off leash or board 12 dogs at a time with ease.  It was absolutely amazing to see Richard at work!

He loved his dogs. Chase, who gave him his profession, and Ruby who was his child. He loved the dogs he boarded, and the dogs he took to the dog park. His life revolved around his extended pack, their needs, their health, their playfulness, and most of all their joy. He would give them nicknames (Rubyroo, Bertieboy) and figure out their favorite toys. Richard would let you know what your dog was telling him in their own voice: “Georgie says you need to take a vacation. And she says she won’t have an accident in the house anymore.” Who are we to say he didn’t have chats with them? He kept track of their medications, their special kibble, their bestest dog buddies. And he insisted that no dog liked wearing a collar so all his dogs went naked. All  of his doggy client families adore him – – grateful for the love he brought into their lives.

Although dogs were the center of his life, his big heart captured his friends and family.  He was known for his kind and often over generous heart— continuously giving to others and advocating for his community.

He had a gregarious smile, evoking laughter when joking around, teasing, or having fun – – which was most of the time.  He radiated positive energy and made all of us who knew him feel good and happy to see him.

The list of people who cared about him is too long to post.  His beloved mother Jan, twin brother Bryan, and bonus brother Nicholas  predeceased him. He is survived by his siblings Alan, Mark, and Dawn, uncle Jimmy, aunt Nancy, son John Richard, bonus family Penny, Victor, and Alex, and numerous nephews and nieces. Among his many friends  hurting right now, Kim, Lila, and Martha were essential to his every day life.

A memorial celebration will be held at Magnusson off leash dog park in Seattle in July.
