Richard Ferrell Obituary

Richard Paul Ferrell died peacefully in his home in Port Orchard on February 6, 2022. His beloved dog Missy followed him in death a few weeks later. He was preceded in death by his father Ezra Ferrell, and his mother Theresa Ferrell. He is survived by his four children, Victoria, James, Dustin and Katie; by his siblings Joseph Ferrell, Gerald Ferrell, Robert Ferrell, Margaret Rinearson, and Debra Lear; and by thirteen grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins.

Rich was born on July 19, 1949, in Aurora, Colorado. He served honorably with the Marine Corps in Vietnam. He worked at the Mare Island Shipyard and at the California Medical Facility in Vacaville. Rich loved his family and his pets. He loved football, talking about his many life adventures, reading, writing, and he loved watching murder mysteries on TV. He had many talents, a self-taught craftsman who became highly accomplished in calligraphy, macrame, and intarsia.

Rich was a hero to all with a heart that was as strong as his woodworking. A lover of people, who never said “no” to those in need. A man of unrelenting loyalty, integrity and morality and above all, a man of honor. Many were the lives he impacted, whether it was in his self-appointed role as a one-man Neighborhood Watch, or his self-appointed role as a father figure to troubled youths, dispensing understanding and advice to young men who couldn’t talk to their own fathers. These were the young lives he turned around. In the process, he won the undying love and loyalty of those whose troubled lives and relationships he helped to heal.

The world is darker with his passing, but his example continues to inspire those who knew him to be the best they can be, to always help those in need. Richard Ferrell’s legacy is the sum total of his memory, stories, personality and heart. He will never be forgotten.
