Matthew Devenere Obituary

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” - 2 Timothy 4:7

Matthew (Matt) Joseph Devenere entered the presence of his Lord and Savior on November 1, 2025, at the age of 56.

He was born in Spokane, WA on March 11, 1969, to parents: Leonard Richard Devenere and Carol Ann Newlun.

Matt graduated from Shadle Park High School in 1987.  He then enlisted in the United States Navy, moved to Florida, and graduated 4th in a class of 220 from the most demanding school in Nuclear Power and Electricity.  The Navy brought him to Bremerton, WA where he performed duties as Electricians Mate 2nd Class aboard Nuclear Submarine USS Pogy, SSN 647.

Matt then moved to Anchorage where he worked as a Dispatcher for Mammoth of Alaska, Inc.  After that he worked for Totem Ocean Trailer Express (TOTE) in Anchorage, as their Terminal Supervisor, later moving to Fife, Burien and then Des Moines, WA to work for TOTE in Tacoma WA.  He eventually finished his race on this earth working as an Equipment Control Manager for TOTE Maritime Alaska.  Throughout his career, he was known as a hardworking, devoted employee and colleague.

Matt was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend who enjoyed fishing, camping, keeping a garden, and collecting and playing his favorite music on vinyl.  He also had a life-long devotion to the Seattle Mariners baseball team, and the Seattle Seahawks football team.

Throughout Matt’s life he kept his faith in God and shared it with those who needed encouragement.  He is also known for his ability to cook and grill amazing food for his friends and family.

He is survived by his sons, Joshua and Justin, daughter Rebecca (husband D Vonte) Wells, grandchildren Summer, Brielle and Brynlee, as well as his mother, Carol, and several siblings, nieces and nephews.

Matt cherished family gatherings, and his presence at holidays and celebrations brought warmth and joy to those around him.

The family takes great comfort in knowing that Matt is reunited with his family members in Heaven.

Rest in peace, dear Matthew.  Your memory will live in our hearts forever.

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted”. -  Matthew 5:4
