Marilyn Jean Mary Wilks was born in 1931 in Detroit, Michigan and was warmly welcomed into her extended Polish American families. After WWII, the family moved north to the
small community of Bellaire in Antrim County. She met and married Scott Ray Maltby, a returned U.S. Army Air Corps Flight Officer. Together they celebrated 55 years of marriage.
Marilyn’s artistic talents took shape in her sewing, knitting, crocheting and flower gardening. With her husband Scott, she shared a love of swimming and boating the chains of
rivers and lakes, and of Lake Michigan. With winter came ice skates and snowmobiles. Together they moved to Marquette and the shores of Lake Superior. They retired to Tacoma, Washington
then purchased a Mallard travel trailer to explore the West. From time to time, they were pulled to the bright lights of the city and took in a musical song and dance extravaganza.
Ben, a big black lab retriever, was their close companion. After Scott’s death, Marilyn resettled in Tacoma to be closer to family. Her next furry companion was a little and lively white
Bichon Frise, Pasha.
Marilyn died on Wednesday, June 12th, nearly 93 years of age. She is survived by her three children - Catherine, Scott, and Christine. Her six grandchildren received nearly 50 years of her love - Jason, Wesley and their spouses Robin and Carrie; Rebecca and her spouse Troy; Matthew; Douglas and his spouse Iryna; and Nellie Jean. Her beloved nine great-grandchildren are Brendon, Riley, Lilly, Crosby, Alexis, Gabrielle, Isabella, Donovan, Katarina.
Her husband Scott, her brothers Chester and George, her grandson Scott L., all predeceased her. May they rest in peace. Her younger sister Fredie survives her.
Donations in her memory may be made to a National Park of your choice.
