Lawrence (Larry) Stevens Obituary

Lawrence (Larry) Stevens, 70, passed away in Tacoma, Washington on April 21, 2026. Born in Tacoma on October 14, 1955, Larry grew up in South Tacoma with loving parents Eugene and Marian, and close family friends Mimi and Patricia Georgetti. Many a road trip to Reno, stuffed in the back of a station wagon with Pat and Mimi’s daughter Kathy G, were among some of Larry’s best childhood memories.

Larry attended Visitation Parochial School before moving to Gray Junior High, he met his lifelong sweetheart Kathy, the day before 9th grade and they were inseparable from that moment on. They both graduated from Mt. Tahoma High School, class of ’74.

After graduating from Central Washington University, he cut his teeth in advertising at the Pierce County Herald. He moved on to what would become his long-term career in the furniture industry by starting at Schoenfeld’s Furniture in downtown Tacoma. Larry went on to work in Olympia as a Store Manager for Seldens Fine Home Furnishings for the last 30 years and cherished the friends and colleagues he worked with along the way.

Another passion that gave Larry so much of his sense of self was working with the Washington Officials Association (WOA). He spent decades as a referee for youth and high school basketball and most recently worked as the scheduler, supporting other referees in Western Washington.

Larry could often be found at the dog park with his chocolate lab, Coco, then Molly, or enjoying a Mariners game with Kathy. He loved playing cards with his grandkids or just being in their presence listening to them enjoy life. One of the best guys anyone could ever ask for in their lives, Larry will be missed by many. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kathy and children Erin, Eric, and Caitlin. His grandchildren Zoey, Connor, Cooper, Bella, Gabriella, Brynn, Joseph, and Oliver will miss grandpa forever. Larry is also survived by brother Gene, sister Toni, nieces Gina and Lisa, and nephews Nathaniel and Sean.

Plans for a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask for donations to the American Cancer Society.

Larry will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
