Joseph Neuenfeldt-Sanchez Obituary

Our son, Joseph Anthony Neuenfeldt Sanchez, who peacefully passed away in his sleep on Tuesday, June 26th 2024, due to complications from an unknown condition affecting his enlarged heart.

Joseph Anthony, known affectionately by many names—Wrestling “Coach” Sanchez, Jojo, Kwaka, Joe-Smoe, Little Rascal, and Joe—was deeply loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Joseph was more than a person; he was a force of nature—a remarkable soul whose presence left an everlasting mark on everyone he encountered. He possessed a rare blend of assertiveness, drive, intellect, love, compassion, and sensitivity that endeared him to countless hearts.

From a young age, Joseph's wisdom and maturity surpassed his years. His insatiable thirst for knowledge led him to devour encyclopedias and dictionaries for pleasure, effortlessly engaging adults in profound conversations even as a child. Joe always wanted to know the answers and wanted to understand why things were the way they were.

Throughout his life, Joseph pursued countless interests and roles. As a physical therapist assistant, wrestler, surfer, truck driver, coach, mentor, and artist, he approached each endeavor with dedication and enthusiasm. His curiosity knew no bounds; he sought to understand the intricacies of the world and determinedly sought ways to make it better.

Joseph's journey took him across the globe prior to moving to Washington.  He spent the first five years of his life in San Antonio, TX. Then he moved to South Carolina, Germany, (visiting various European countries), and Maryland.

Joseph spent several years in Hawaii, where he obtained his bachelor's degree. His academic excellence was matched only by his thirst for diverse experiences. Throughout the years Joe made friends from all over the world, and so many of those friends were like family to Joe.

Joe was the type of person who could organically carry a conversation with anyone, about almost anything. He had a passion for connecting with people, listening intently to their life stories while eagerly sharing parts of his own.

Joe was someone who flourished when he was outdoors; delighted in crafting adventures wherever he roamed, finding solace and joy in nature's embrace. Alongside his passion for the wilderness, Joe was an extreme music lover. He took pride in his record collection that contained multiple genres.

He would frequently walk around the house singing loudly. Whether he was belting out country tunes, switching seamlessly to Spanish melodies, or channeling the soul of Louis Armstrong with remarkable accuracy, his eclectic tastes filled the air.

Joseph's greatest pride was being a good brother. His love for his brothers knew no bounds; he valued every moment spent with them, being in their company gave Joe a source of joy, comfort, and inspiration.

Daniel, Nathaniel, Jude, and Noah, along with his cousin JR, were not just his brothers but his closest confidants and companions. The love Joseph held for his brothers, and the reciprocal affection his family had for him, defied any description in words.

Joseph cherished his family and friends with a love that was both genuine and unconditional. His boundless affection and infectious spirit touched the lives of all who knew him, leaving behind a legacy of passion, intellect, and love.

As we honor Joseph's life today, let us reflect on more than just his achievements, but on the essence of his being—a shining example of kindness, curiosity, and someone who loves unconditionally.

Though I feel he left us too soon, I can't help but think of Joe and his relentless curiosity to understand "why." Right now, I imagine Joe contemplating countless questions about life. Deep in my heart, I sense that Joe comprehends the purpose behind his existence—even if we struggle to grasp God's plan.

Joseph's spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known and loved him.

Rest in peace, son. We all love and miss you so much already. It gives me comfort to know you are our guardian angel with God in Heaven. I am extremely proud of all of your accomplishments, my son. You will be loved forever.
