James “Jim” Roberts Knowles, 79, died peacefully surrounded by family in Everett, Washington.
Jim is survived by his wife Jean Marie Knowles; his children Judith Fernandes (Ken), Chad Knowles, Mark Hanken (Kimber), MaryAnn LeGore, and Dan Hanken (Jill). He was a loving “Dampa” to 13 grandchildren, Mel Fernandes, Mitchell Fernandes, James Fernandes, Ellen Knowles, Ruthann Fernandes, Betsy Knowles, Jack LeGore, Brandon Hanken, JonMichael LeGore, Claire Hanken, Cody Hanken, Lucy Hanken, and Bailey Hanken. Jim is preceded in death by his mother Ruth Clarke and father Chadwick Knowles.
Jim was born December 19, 1941, in Seattle Washington to Ruth and Chadwick Knowles. He graduated from Garfield High School in 1960 and Whitman College in 1964. At Whitman College, he majored in Economics and was president of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity where he created lifelong friendships with his fraternity brothers. After college, Jim served as a naval officer in the EOD division as a diver.
Upon retirement, Jim returned to the sea on his boat PortFolio. He, Jean, and their beloved dogs (Griffey and Belle) spent many days cruising the Puget Sound on their boat developing many friendships along the way.
A celebration of life will be held on July 25th. The family would like to thank all the nurses and doctors at Providence Regional Medical Center for their care and dedication to Jim.
