On March 7, 2024, Gerald “Gerry” Allen Slick, 75, passed away in Marysville, Washington. Gerry was born August 1, 1949 to John and Iris Slick in Tecumseh, Michigan. He grew up there, attended Eastern Michigan University, and was drafted into the Army. He served in Germany during the Vietnam War, where he made Sergeant and was head of security at a hospital there. After he was discharged from the military, he moved back to the United States and worked for the National Parks Service in Northern Michigan. Gerry loved working for the parks service. After a wonderful stint in the Parks Service, Gerry moved to South Africa, where he spent time working as a bartender and designing houses for the South African government, which cemented his career in architecture. When Gerry returned to the US, he lived in Houston, Texas, and later moved to Washington. During this time, Gerry was employed by Burnstead Construction as a designer/draftsman. Gerry met his second wife, Brenda, while he was in Washington. He continued working for architecture companies in Western Washington, obtaining his architecture license. After Gerry and Brenda married, they had a son, Daniel Slick. Gerry started his own business, Gerry Slick Design Group. From then on, Gerry spent his time doing what he loved: raising his son, designing homes, and playing baseball. Brenda often said he could be found with one of three things in his hand: a drafting tool, a fork, or a baseball bat.
Gerry is survived by Brenda and Daniel, as well as other family members and many friends. While there will not be a memorial service, condolences may be sent through Scanlin Funeral Home at 2021 70th Ave W, University Place, WA 98466. Gerry’s family is asking that any donations made in memory of Gerry be made to the Habitat for Humanity in Tacoma, an organization that was close to Gerry’s heart.
