Faith Smith Obituary

Faith Anne Smith, 74, passed away Sunday, April 2nd, 2023 due to complications from a long-term illness. Faith was born May 3,1948 in Walla Walla, Washington to MaryLouise Emma (Shaffer) Smith and Frank Therman Smith Sr.

Faith’s family settled in Olympia Washington in 1955.  She attended Yelm & North Thurston school districts and graduated from North Thurston High School in 1967.  Faith trained as a nurse’s aide and was employed at Panorama City for several years before retiring due to disability.

Faith married Thomas Everett Willson April 4, 1969.   They had 3 children, Thomas Paul Willson, and twins Melissa Ann (Willson) Terwilleger, and Christopher Lee Willson.  They divorced March 9, 1971.  She married James Edward Smith November 6, 1993.  They made their home in Olympia until they separated in 2015.

Faith’s children and grandchildren were the light of her life.  She loved to cook for them and passed on her recipes for their favorite homemade noodles and rivel soup. They enjoy making them to this day and will continue to pass on the recipes to their future generations.  Family members also fondly remember her special baked beans and macaroni salad.

Faith loved to collect porcelain dolls, carousels, refrigerator magnets, and ‘big gulp’ cups from truck stop mini-marts.  She traveled several summers throughout the United States with her husband James Smith who was a long-haul trucker.  She would tell tales of their excursions and was always excited to talk about the really good food they found along the way.

Faith had been a resident of Puget Sound Healthcare Center where she was lovingly cared for since September 2015.  She is survived by sisters Bette Louise Armstrong and Alice Francis Huston (Ed), brother Frank Therman Smith Jr., her 3 children, 5 grandchildren Brittney Michaelis (Josh), Bryana Madison (Brandon), Brooklyn Terwilleger, Rebecca Sanders (Winston), and Jerod Willson, 2 greatgrandchildren Bjørn Madison and Raiden Sanders, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, husbands, brother-in-law, Dale Armstrong, and son-in-law, Brian Terwilleger.

There will be a memorial open house for Faith at the Thurston County Fairgrounds Heritage Hall on Monday, June 19, 2023 from 2pm to 5pm.  Interment will be in the Milton-Freewater Cemetery, Milton-Freewater, Oregon.
