Dale Flyberg, 81, died at his home in Auburn, Washington on July 10, 2024.
Dale was born on March 1, 1943, in New England, North Dakota to John and Lula (Pulvermacher) Flyberg. The youngest of eight children, he was raised on the family farm in Amidon, ND. He had fond recollections of his early years on the farm, particularly of his siblings, neighbors, and his horse Boots. He attended schools in Amidon, New England, Sherwood, and Dickinson, as well as Lynwood High School in Lynwood, California.
Dale began his family in Rapid City, South Dakota where his first two daughters were born. In search of employment, and to escape winter on the northern plains, he moved to the West Coast, settling in Seattle where his next two daughters were born. Arriving in Seattle in 1962, Dale worked first at Gene and George’s Chevron, then at Red Dot Corporation before being hired in 1977 by The Boeing Company where he worked as a machinist until his retirement in 2003.
In his retirement years, Dale relished his opportunities to travel to Naples, Italy; Mazatlán, Mexico; Florida; Texas; Nevada; California; and the Washington coast. He also deeply enjoyed his trips back to visit family in North Dakota. In addition to travel, he found joy in studying history; fishing; caring for his horses, goats, and cats; repairing cars and mechanical equipment; and taking in the fresh air on his rural property.
Dale is survived by his daughters Karen (John) Geyer, Diana (Scott) Barker, Eva (John) Gates, and Cheryl Harmon; 13 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; brothers Ralph (Bernadine) Flyberg, and Melvyn (Marcella) Flyberg; and sister Betty Miller.
The family is in the process of planning a celebration of life and will announce details soon.
